A startup idea engineered into a million-user trading platform

EffectiveSoft joined at the early vision stage and became a core engineering partner behind a multi-asset trading platform that now serves over one million registered users across 50+ countries.

    The starting point

In 2018, a fintech entrepreneur approached EffectiveSoft with the idea of building a modern trading platform centered around commission-free trading, transparent pricing, and an intuitive user experience. The vision was to combine market data, trading activity, portfolio management, and financial instruments within a single product that felt accessible and trustworthy to everyday users.

Product experience was a major priority from the beginning. The platform had to look polished, respond smoothly, and maintain a consistent feel across every core interaction.

At that point, the project existed only as an idea with a set of initial requirements and rough design concepts. There was no established engineering team, production infrastructure, or working product. The next step was turning the concept into a scalable platform while moving quickly enough to gain an early foothold in the market. EffectiveSoft joined the project as the core engineering partner responsible for building the product from the ground up.

    The first release

The first stage of development focused on delivering an MVP with the core functionality required for market launch.

EffectiveSoft started with native mobile applications for iOS and Android, along with the back-end services supporting the trading platform.

The initial release covered the essential trading flows: authentication, navigation, watchlists, instrument pages with charts, portfolio management, trading history, and deposit and withdrawal functionality. At launch, the platform already supported commission-free trading across stock, crypto, and forex instruments.

Both mobile applications were released in app stores by the end of 2018. This allowed the client to validate the product in real market conditions, collect feedback from early users, and continue expanding the platform based on real operational and business needs.

    Product expansion

Following the mobile launch, the platform began evolving around real trading activity and growing user demand. Early adoption was driven not only by the product itself, but also by the client’s active communication with the community and investment in marketing. As the user base expanded, EffectiveSoft continuously introduced new capabilities to improve the platform, support long-term engagement, and elevate the overall trading experience.

New trading functionality included limit orders, allowing users to define execution conditions in advance, and multiple watchlists for tracking instruments more efficiently.

The platform was also extended with additional financial functionality, including an in-app spot wallet for storing supported assets, dividend-adjustment processing for eligible instruments, and balance-based earning functionality available in supported regions.

To help users make faster trading decisions, the platform introduced market news and trading insights directly inside the application.

At the same time, the payment ecosystem continued to expand. Additional deposit and withdrawal methods, including Apple Pay, bank cards, bank transfers, and crypto-based transfers, gave users more flexibility when funding accounts and managing transactions.

    The platform becomes an ecosystem

As the product matured, the complexity of the platform grew far beyond the trading interface itself. More systems, integrations, and operational workflows had to work together continuously behind the scenes.

EffectiveSoft developed the Management Console used by the client’s internal teams, which provided operational tools for managing instruments, monitoring activity, reviewing reports, handling inactive sessions, and supporting internal business processes critical to platform operations.

The next major milestone was the web application. It extended the trading experience beyond mobile devices, supported more active desktop-oriented users, and broadened the platform’s reach across different usage scenarios.

Over time, the product evolved into a connected trading ecosystem combining mobile and web applications, back-end services, operational tooling, payment integrations, and business-critical support workflows.

    The growth raised the stakes

As the platform scaled, the work around it became significantly more dynamic and operationally demanding. New features continued to be added, but the bigger challenge became maintaining platform reliability amid constantly evolving market conditions, regional requirements, business priorities, and third-party dependencies.

Several business-critical areas required nonstop oversight. Real-time market data had to remain synchronized and reliably delivered despite depending on external providers and experiencing periods of high market volatility.

Payments required continuous maintenance because deposit and withdrawal providers regularly updated APIs, changed validation requirements, introduced new operational constraints, or became unavailable in certain regions. In some cases, new integrations had to be implemented under tight deadlines.

Margin call logic became one of the most business-critical parts of the platform. During sharp market movements, the system had to process calculations accurately and remain stable under heavy loads, since failures in this area could directly affect both platform operations and user trust.

To address urgent incidents in real time, we introduced dedicated monitoring practices, structured L3 engineering support, and 24/7 developer on-duty rotations.

In parallel, we established a structured validation process for all significant changes to the system.

Before introducing new functionality or integrations, the team reviewed how the requested changes would interact with the existing architecture, operational flows, and third-party dependencies. For technically complex initiatives, EffectiveSoft involved engineers from the investigation team to validate implementation feasibility, identify integration constraints, and uncover potential risks before development started.

If a requested solution could not be implemented reliably under existing technical or provider constraints, we didn’t push it directly into development. Instead, the team aligned with the client on limitations, alternative approaches, or required changes before moving forward.

    Where we are now

Today, the platform serves over 1,200,000 registered users and supports trading activity across 50+ regions, with strong adoption in Latin America and Europe. It is available on the web, iOS, and Android and provides access to multiple asset classes, including stocks, crypto, ETFs, futures, commodities, and forex, with the interface localized into five languages.

The product operates as a commission-free trading platform. Users can fund their accounts, follow real-time market data, review charts and news, manage watchlists, place orders, track trading history, and receive dividends on supported fractional assets.

EffectiveSoft remains the core engineering partner for the platform, with around 50 specialists involved across mobile, web, and back-end development; QA, business analysis, and design; technical investigation and integrations; L3 support, urgent fixes, and monitoring improvements.

In addition to delivery and support, the team brings strong domain knowledge of trading operations, platform behavior, and the business priorities that impact product decisions. This allows the team to align technical execution with user experience, reliability, and the commercial goals of the platform. Moreover, having supported the platform through multiple growth phases, the team has developed deep knowledge of its architecture, dependencies, and production behavior. This continuity helps EffectiveSoft identify risks earlier, respond faster to operational issues, and make decisions that balance engineering quality with business outcomes.

    What’s next

The client is now preparing the platform for new markets. Each region has its own regulatory, operational, and technical requirements, so we conducted a comprehensive review to define which parts of the platform can be reused, where improvements are needed, and what must change before expansion continues. This analysis has resulted in a prioritized roadmap, which is now being actively implemented.
